time for a break. time for a post.

Thanksgiving break has officially started for me as I had my last teaching day today until the Monday after Thanksgiving. Man, I'm ready for a few nights without planning or grading. Jess, Hadley and I are hoping to do lots of fun stuff over the next week while I'm on Thanksgiving break...here's a few videos from the past week or so.

As we go through all of the seasons of Frasier for the 2nd time, I'm reminded of a couple hysterical Frasier moments from Cheers...

What a difference a year makes . . .

Hadley and I, along with several of our friends decided to visit Thompson's Orchard, the same place we visited last fall. It was the quintessential fall day, perfect for picking apples and this year I can actually say that Hadley helped pick the apples. The kids (and moms) had a great time filling our bags with tasty Macintosh apples and of course sampling the delicious homemade doughnuts (who are we kidding, that is the real reason we went apple picking!). Now that we are home with our apples I am hoping to make some applesauce since that has been one of Hadley's favorite foods to eat lately.

Later, as I was uploading the pictures from our outing I was remembering what our visit to Thompson's was like last fall. Wow has she changed! Last year she sat on our backs and looked around. This year she actually picked some apples and I think had the most fun just climbing around in the fields. It is truly amazing to think about all of the changes in Hadley. She is talking up a storm, repeating almost every word that comes out of our mouths and is currently obsessed with swings and slides. Anywhere we go she is always looking for a new swing or slide to test out. It is hard to believe that she is already one and a half, I can only imagine what she is going to be like in another year and a half!

Here are some pictures from today's outing as well as one from last year for comparison. Enjoy and Happy Fall!

labor day fun.

We had a great Labor Day weekend and soaked up every last bit of the unofficial end to summer. We had a great time at the Errickson's get-together on Saturday, hit up Bradbury on Sunday, and on Monday we had a great hike around Mackworth Island. It's going to be tough being away from my girls now that school is starting tomorrow...

Machigonne Music Festival in Portland, ME

I got to see my buddy Andrew's guitar played by the front man of Rustic Overtones. Rustic then played as Ray LaMontagne's band for his set. We missed Jason Spooner because he was on earlier. Fun night!

Hadley learned what a circle was yesterday. She was running around yelling the word over and over and over. We're still working on triangle and square...

She loves her corn on the cob.

With the later days of summer upon us, the corn on the cob is tasting its best. With Pineland Farms just down the road from us, we have been eating lots of good corn that pops right off the cob. Hadley has been eating lots of our own blueberries, green beans and cucumbers from our garden...she certainly is a good eater.

In other news, Jess is running another 5k in a couple weeks and I'm still training for my first triathlon. Jess and the ladies are making a retreat to Saddleback next weekend so I get Hadley all to myself. School is approaching so meetings are starting to pop up. Other than that, life is good in Maine!

Hadley wasn't sure what to think about the pigs and chickens but she loved the horses and cows.

Her new book.

Here are a couple clips of Hadley going through a new book we got her. It has pictures in a column on one page and then you have to match them up by finding them on the pages in the scene. She's picking up on it pretty quickly...

tricks, pics and one crazy monster under a blanket.

We've been having lots of fun so far this summer and lately we've been spending as much time outside as possible. I guess that's what happens when it rains for the whole month of June! Hadley has been loving her swing, watering the plants, and climbing up onto everything she can get her hands on. She's even surpassed Sawyer with the "roll over" command...

A few random pics.

Ahh, garage beers, the gift that gets sweeter with time - at least those that don't explode due to cold. They've been there 3 years now?

Dreaming of the beach...

Well, we're back to reality and the beach is now just a distant memory. We're already booking the trip for next summer. It didn't take very long for Hadley to not be afraid of the ocean as you couldn't turn your back on her for a second or else she'd be out bobbing around in the water. She had a great time digging holes, knocking over sand castles, eating sand and salt water, and meandering all over the beach just when we started to relax on our beach towels. The whole Smith family was there at Bethany and it was truly a great vacation. Here are a few videos of Hadley both on the beach and inside filling her belly with food. Long live the Bethany donut shop...

Hadley's new-old slide.

Jess and I cleaned up and put back together this classic slide from Jess's childhood...so that dates it back to the 18th century, right Jess? Anyway, Hadley loves it. We have to keep the door closed to the mudroom when we're not using it because she would play on it all day if she could. She figured out how to climb up and slide down pretty quickly, and as you can see from the video she also knows how to slow her self down on the slide. No, Daddy has not tried the slide yet...

Sawyer is a nut.

Well, actually both Sawyer and Rossi are nut jobs. Every once and a while they go to town digging a hole and today was one of those days. Sawyer was nearly over his head digging in this hole, chasing whatever they were chasing. Either way, they had tons of fun and Rossi got his cardio for the day.

The kissing bandit.

Hadley has been displaying her personality more and more everyday. From her dancing and chattering, to her mini temper tantrums, to her kisses to everyone including the dogs, to her throwing food to the dogs, to her spinning round and round till dizzy -- she certainly is growing and changing fast. I'm excited to be done with school and teaching so I can spend more time at home with my girls. Here are a few videos from the last few weeks that I've been trying to get posted but have been just too dang busy. Enjoy...

Last post of the day...

Well, she did it...an Schreyers honors reception, an Engineering Science ceremony, a Schreyers Honors College medal ceremony, and finally a School of Engineering diploma ceremony - she officially a graduate! We're all proud of her and we're all going to bed. G'night...
